What it costs to sell clothes online

November 3, 20263 min read

Selling clothes online costs anywhere from nothing to 20% of the sale. Poshmark takes 20% at $15 or more. eBay takes 13.6% plus a small per-order fee. Grailed takes 6% or 9%, plus processing. ArcList charges buyers nothing and sellers 1.5%, plus card processing of about 2.9% + $0.30.

The fee is the biggest cost most sellers can see. It also varies more between marketplaces than anything else you control.

What each marketplace takes

  • Poshmark: 20% of the sale at $15 or more, and a flat $2.95 below that.
  • eBay: 13.6% of item and shipping for most clothing, plus $0.30 up to $10, or $0.40 above.
  • Grailed: 6% under $120 (at least $1.99), 9% from $120, plus processing of 3.49% + $0.49.
  • Depop: no selling fee for US sellers since July 2024. Buyers pay up to 5% of the price, plus up to $1.
  • Vinted: nothing to the seller. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee at checkout.
  • ArcList: 1.5% of the item price, plus card processing of about 2.9% + $0.30. Both come from your payout. Buyers pay no fee.

These rates come from each marketplace's own fee pages, checked in 2026. Marketplaces change them with little notice, so check before you price.

One $120 jacket, four ways

Here is what the seller gives up on a $120 jacket, before shipping.

  • Poshmark: $24.00.
  • eBay: $16.72.
  • Grailed: about $15.48, processing included.
  • ArcList: about $5.58, card processing included.

The same jacket nets $96.00 on Poshmark and about $114.42 on ArcList.

When a zero seller fee still costs you

Depop and Vinted moved the fee onto the buyer. The seller keeps more, but the buyer pays more than your price.

Buyers compare totals at checkout. A buyer fee makes your item dearer than the same piece listed somewhere without one.

ArcList charges neither side a marketplace fee beyond the seller's 1.5%. The buyer sees your price, plus shipping.

The costs no fee page lists

  • Payment processing: it applies on most marketplaces, even where the selling fee is zero.
  • Boosts and promoted listings: optional, but they take an extra share of every boosted sale.
  • Packaging: mailers, tape and labels add a little to every order.
  • Your time: photographing, measuring and listing is the cost most sellers never count.

How to price with fees in mind

Work back from what you want to keep. Divide it by one minus the fee rate, then add any fixed fee.

To keep $50 on Poshmark, list at $62.50. Twenty percent of $62.50 is $12.50, which leaves your $50.

Cross-list one item to several marketplaces and the fee depends on where it sells. Price for the costliest one, or accept a thinner margin there.

On ArcList's Reseller plan, the Sales page records the fee on each sale. You see what every marketplace really took.
